Oak Hill sits in southwest Austin around the “Y” — where Highway 290 and Highway 71 split — and it’s a good fit if you want Hill Country lots and mature trees without giving up a reasonable drive into the city. Search the current Oak Hill listings below, and reach out if you want my read on a specific pocket of the area.
I’m Robbie English, licensed REALTOR and Broker at Uncommon Realty here in the Austin area.
Neighborhoods in and around Oak Hill
Oak Hill isn’t one single neighborhood so much as a cluster of them around the Y intersection. Scenic Brook sits just north and west of where 290 and 71 meet, and Granada Hills borders it to the south, running toward FM 1826 and Belterra. Both are zoned to Austin ISD. West Oak Hill, along the US-290 side of the area, is another pocket worth touring if you want similar lot sizes and tree cover with a bit more separation from the Y itself. The Y is the commercial core of the area — where most of the shopping, restaurants, and services are — and it’s been going through a long-running TxDOT construction project to rework the interchange, so it’s worth asking about current traffic patterns if you’re touring homes nearby.
Housing in Oak Hill
Homes here range from older ranch-style properties on big, wooded lots to newer builds in the subdivisions that have filled in over the last couple of decades. Lot sizes tend to be larger than what you’ll find closer to central Austin, which is a big part of the draw for buyers who want more space and privacy without moving all the way out to the far Hill Country suburbs.
Who Oak Hill fits
Oak Hill tends to suit buyers who want a shorter commute into central or south Austin than you’d get from the true Hill Country suburbs further out on 290 or 71, while still getting bigger lots and more tree cover than most of the city offers. It’s a reasonable middle ground if you’ve been looking at places like Dripping Springs or Bee Cave but want to trim ten or fifteen minutes off your drive. I can help you sort through how a given street compares on lot size, tree cover, and distance from the Y before you commit to touring.
