North Shoal Creek is one of the North Central Austin neighborhoods I point buyers to when they want an established location with a short commute in almost any direction. It’s a 78757 pocket of mid-century homes and mature trees, bordered by MoPac, US 183, Burnet Road, and Anderson Lane, so The Domain, Austin’s major employers, and downtown are all close by. Search the current North Shoal Creek listings below, and reach out anytime if you want my take on a specific property.
I’m Robbie English, a broker with Uncommon Realty here in Austin.
Living in North Shoal Creek
North Shoal Creek took shape in the 1960s, and that history is visible in the housing stock — mostly single-family homes on established, tree-covered lots, with condos and a handful of other housing types around the edges. Kids in the neighborhood attend Austin ISD schools, with Pillow Elementary serving much of the area. Because the neighborhood sits right at the intersection of MoPac and US 183, getting to The Domain, the North Austin employment corridor, or downtown is a short drive no matter which way you’re headed, and Burnet Road gives you a direct line to shopping and restaurants without getting on the highway at all. It’s also close to other North Central Austin pockets like Crestview, Wooten, and Brentwood, so if North Shoal Creek doesn’t have the right listing at the moment, I usually widen the search to those neighborhoods first.
The North Shoal Creek Neighborhood Association is active in the community, and there’s a neighborhood garden that’s become a gathering spot for residents. For parks and recreation, Beverly S. Sheffield Northwest District Park sits nearby with a pool, tennis and basketball courts, a playground, and a pond, and the Northwest Recreation Center runs additional community programs.
Buying a home in North Shoal Creek
Because the neighborhood is over 60 years old, homes here vary a lot in age, condition, and how much work has been done to them. Some are original mid-century houses that haven’t been touched structurally, others have been fully renovated or rebuilt from the studs, and you’ll see everything in between. That mix means the details matter more than they would in a newer subdivision — what’s original versus updated, what permits were actually pulled for any additions or renovations, and how a specific lot and floor plan stack up against what else is available nearby. I can walk you through individual North Shoal Creek listings, help you understand exactly what you’d be buying, and make sure a home is the right fit before you write an offer.
