Apache Shores sits between Lake Travis and Lake Austin in far west Travis County, near Lakeway but technically unincorporated – it falls in the 78734 zip code and is run by its own property owners’ association rather than a city government. I’m Robbie English, REALTOR, Broker with Uncommon Realty, and I’ve walked plenty of buyers through this neighborhood who didn’t realize until we talked it through that Apache Shores isn’t inside Lakeway’s city limits.
The community got its start back in 1967, when a Houston developer bought roughly 667 acres here and built it as a vacation-home resort for people who wanted summer lake living – the old motel and horse-boarding facilities from that era are long gone, but the laid-back, lake-cabin character stuck around even as more people have made it a full-time address. Homes range from older cabin-style properties from that original era to newer builds on the same wooded lots. Apache Shores is zoned to Lake Travis ISD, feeding Lake Travis Elementary, Hudson Bend Middle, and Lake Travis High School.
Because it’s a POA neighborhood and not a municipality, road maintenance, water, and amenities are handled differently than they are in Lakeway proper – that’s worth understanding before you make an offer, not after. If you want to compare it to other options nearby, I’ve also got pages on Honey Creek and Townhomes at Tuscan Village, both inside Lakeway’s city limits, or the broader 78734 zip code if you want to see everything in the area at once.
