Burnet, Texas is the county seat of Burnet County, about 54 miles northwest of Austin in the Highland Lakes region. It’s a smaller town than what you’ll find closer to Austin, which means more space between properties and more room for a pool without feeling like you’re on top of your neighbors.
I’m Robbie English. I’m a REALTOR and Broker at Uncommon Realty, and I’ve spent decades helping buyers navigate the Highland Lakes market, including homes with pools, where there’s more to check than what shows up in the listing photos.

What to Check on a Pool Home Before You Buy
A pool that looks good in photos doesn’t tell you much about upkeep. Before you get attached to a listing, it’s worth asking about the type of system (chlorine vs. saltwater), how old the pool and its equipment are, whether it was permitted, and how much shade or sun exposure it gets — all of that affects both your day-to-day maintenance and what it’ll cost to keep running.
I also look at how the pool sits on the lot: proximity to trees (more leaf cleanup), privacy from neighboring properties, and whether the surrounding hardscape and landscaping were done well or are going to need work soon.
Why Buyers Come to Burnet
Burnet offers a slower pace than in-town Austin, with more acreage and Hill Country scenery, while still being a reasonable drive from the city. Homes with pools tend to be some of the more sought-after listings here, and they don’t sit on the market long when priced right.
