Living in Austin, TX

People ask me all the time why I’ve spent my whole career selling real estate in Austin instead of somewhere else. The honest answer is that this city keeps giving me reasons to stay excited about it, and I think that’s rare for a place this size.

Living in Austin, TX

The music is not a marketing slogan

Austin calls itself the Live Music Capital of the World, and it actually backs that up. There are more than 250 venues in the city where you can walk in on any given night and hear something real, from a random Tuesday show on Rainey Street to South by Southwest taking over the whole city every March. Austin City Limits happens every fall in Zilker Park, and it’s become one of the festivals other cities try to copy.

Outdoor life is a daily habit here, not a weekend event

Barton Springs Pool sits at a steady 68 to 70 degrees year-round, spring-fed and swimmable in January just as easily as July. A lot of longtime residents call it the soul of the city, and once you’ve swum there, it’s hard to argue. Lady Bird Lake runs right through downtown with a trail loop that fills up with runners, kayakers, and paddleboarders most evenings, and the Barton Creek Greenbelt gives you miles of actual wilderness a few minutes from your front door.

A tech hub without losing its weird

Austin has become a genuine tech and business center over the past decade, with major employers and manufacturing investment reshaping entire parts of the metro. That growth is real, and I see it in the buyers I work with every year. But the city has managed to hold onto the “Keep Austin Weird” streak that made people love it in the first place. You still get food trucks parked next to seven-figure office campuses, and that mix is part of what makes this market interesting to sell in.

What this means if you’re thinking about a move

None of this replaces the practical side of a move, and I’ve written a much deeper guide covering neighborhoods, cost of living, and what actually fits different lifestyles in my Austin Relocation Guide, plus a full breakdown of buying and selling here in my Austin Real Estate Guide. This page is just the case for why I think it’s worth it.

I’m Robbie English, REALTOR and Broker at Uncommon Realty, and I’ve spent my career helping people find their place in this city. If you’re ready to see what’s actually on the market, search current Austin homes for sale here.
