Northwest Hills sits in the 78731 zip code, west of MoPac and about seven miles northwest of downtown, and it’s a neighborhood I show a lot of buyers who want mature trees and larger lots without leaving Austin proper. Most of the homes went up between the late 1950s and 1980s, so you’ll see original ranch homes, remodels, and newer custom builds sitting side by side on the same street.
I’m Robbie English, REALTOR and Broker at Uncommon Realty, and Northwest Hills is one of the Austin neighborhoods I work in most often.
Schools, shopping, and getting around
Northwest Hills is zoned to Doss Elementary, a longtime Blue Ribbon School, along with Murchison Middle and Anderson High, both International Baccalaureate campuses — though I always tell buyers to confirm attendance zones for a specific address before writing an offer, since boundaries can shift block to block. The Arboretum at Great Hills and the Domain are both a five-to-ten-minute drive, so you’ve got shopping, restaurants, and a movie theater close by without the neighborhood itself feeling commercial.
Nearby neighborhoods worth comparing
Buyers looking in Northwest Hills often also cross-shop Great Hills, River Place, and Mesa Forest — all northwest Austin neighborhoods with their own mix of lot sizes, ages of construction, and price points. If you’d like to compare a few side by side, or just want help figuring out which streets in Northwest Hills fit your school-zone priorities, let’s set up a buyer consultation.
