I’m Robbie English, REALTOR and Managing Broker at Uncommon Realty, and I get this question a lot from buyers looking at Buda: which neighborhoods are actually gated? The honest answer is that true gate-guarded communities are fairly limited here compared to somewhere like Austin’s western suburbs. Kyle, just south of Buda, has a similar mix if you want to widen the search.
Elliott Ranch is the clearest example
Elliott Ranch, just north of the Buda city limits in Hays County, is the community I point most buyers to when they specifically want a gated address. It’s a 547-acre development with only about 213 homes on estate-size lots, built around an 81-acre private wooded greenbelt, with jogging and biking paths and a playground at the center of the neighborhood. The low home count relative to the acreage is what gives it that more private, spread-out feel compared to a typical Buda subdivision.
Other options if a full gate isn’t a dealbreaker
A handful of other Buda communities – Garlic Creek, Whispering Hollow, and a few others – have HOA-controlled amenities like pools and parks and a more planned, cohesive feel, but they’re not gated in the guard-gate sense, so I don’t want to oversell that. If privacy and lot size matter more to you than an actual gate, those are still worth a look, and I can pull current listings in any of them.
Because gated inventory in Buda turns over slowly, I’d also recommend getting pre-approved before you start touring, so you can move quickly when something in Elliott Ranch or a similar community comes up.
