Highland Haven is a small city of roughly 400 people on the east shore of Lake LBJ in Burnet County, about seven miles west of Marble Falls off RM 1431. It was established in 1962 and incorporated in 1995, and it’s stayed one of the quieter, mostly-residential corners of the Highland Lakes chain — no downtown strip, just waterfront and near-waterfront streets. If you’re searching for homes for sale in Highland Haven, I can walk you through what’s actually available here.
I’m Robbie English, REALTOR and Broker at Uncommon Realty here in the Highland Lakes.
Living on Lake LBJ in Highland Haven
Lake LBJ is a constant-level lake, held steady by the Wirtz Dam that the LCRA built back in 1950, so unlike Lake Travis you don’t see docks sitting on dry ground during a drought year. That’s a big part of why buyers looking specifically for lake living gravitate here — boats stay in the water, and the shoreline looks about the same in August as it does in April. You’ll find a mix of older lake cabins that have been updated or rebuilt, and newer construction on the remaining waterfront and near-water lots. Lot sizes tend to run larger than what you’d find in an Austin subdivision, and privacy is part of the draw for a lot of my clients here. Kids in Highland Haven attend Marble Falls ISD schools.
Because it’s a small city with no commercial strip of its own, day-to-day life here means a short drive for groceries or dinner out, and most residents treat that as a fair trade for waking up on the water. Fishing, kayaking, and just sitting on a dock are the main pastimes, and the lake stays busy with boat traffic on summer weekends.
Getting around the area
Marble Falls is your closest full-service town, about seven miles east on RM 1431, with grocery stores, restaurants, and the historic downtown district. I show a lot of buyers around Marble Falls homes for sale alongside Highland Haven listings, since most people cross-shop the two. If new construction is more your speed, Thunder Rock is the master-planned community going in on the other side of Marble Falls at Hwy 281 and Hwy 71, with Lennar and D.R. Horton building homes from the low $250,000s. Across the lake, Horseshoe Bay has the resort, marina, and golf courses if you want that lifestyle closer by.
If you want to see what else is moving in the wider Central Texas market while you’re deciding, you can also search current listings across the region. Reach out anytime — I’m happy to pull comps or set you up with an alert for anything that hits the market in Highland Haven.
