Granite Shoals sits on the east shore of Lake LBJ in Burnet County, about seven miles west of Marble Falls and a little under an hour from downtown Austin. It’s a small city, just over 5,000 residents, and most of what draws people here is the lake itself along with a slower pace than you’d get closer to Austin.
I’m Robbie English, a broker with Uncommon Highland Lakes Realty here in the Hill Country.
Who Granite Shoals fits best
Because Lake LBJ is a constant-level lake, you can keep a boat at the dock and use it whenever you want instead of working around seasonal drawdowns — it’s one of the bigger reasons people choose Granite Shoals over a lake town where the water level swings. Getting to Austin from here takes close to an hour depending on traffic, so this market tends to work better for retirees, remote workers, and people who only need to make that drive occasionally than for someone commuting into the city five days a week. If you’re weighing Granite Shoals against a closer-in option, it’s worth being honest with yourself about how often you’d actually make that drive before you decide. For day-to-day shopping and dining, most residents make the short drive into Marble Falls, which is also home to Marble Falls ISD. If you’re weighing this move for retirement specifically, I go into more depth on why the town’s nineteen parks make daily lake access possible without owning a dock on my Retiring in Granite Shoals, TX page.
Housing options
Homes here range from smaller lake cottages on modest lots up to larger waterfront properties with private docks, plus condos and townhomes if you’d rather skip the yard work. Waterfront carries a real premium given how limited the shoreline is, so it’s worth deciding early how close to the water you actually need to be versus how much you want to spend. For the fuller rundown of what’s currently on the market by property type, see Granite Shoals TX Real Estate For Sale.
A few smaller lake communities sit right around Granite Shoals too, including Horseshoe Bay and Highland Haven, so if you’re open to a slightly different setting nearby, I can walk you through what’s available in the surrounding area as well as inside city limits.
