Living in Marble Falls TX | Shopping, Art & Things to Do

Marble Falls is one of those Hill Country towns where the day-to-day is genuinely good — a lake five minutes from downtown, a walkable Main Street full of independent shops and galleries, and enough going on that you don’t have to drive to Austin for a night out. I show buyers around here often, and it’s consistently one of the towns people fall for once they’ve actually spent a weekend in it. I’m Robbie English, a REALTOR/Broker with Uncommon Highland Lakes Realty, which covers the Highland Lakes area. You can read more about me here.

Main Street is the heart of it — locally-owned restaurants, boutique shops, and galleries packed into a walkable historic downtown. The Blue Bonnet Café is the anchor everyone mentions first; it’s been open since 1929 and is known well beyond Marble Falls for its pie. Beyond Main Street, you’ve got the everyday essentials too: grocery stores, home improvement stores, and a mix of national retailers. More on Marble Falls after we look at some homes…

An actual art scene, not just a few shops

Marble Falls has more going on with art than most towns this size. The Highland Arts Guild & Gallery, right on Main Street, shows work from about 70 local artists with free admission. Museo Benini, on a 35-acre ranch just outside town, has 6,500 square feet of gallery space tracing Italian artist Benini’s work back to the 1960s, plus outdoor sculpture trails you can walk. Arthouse Marble Falls is newer, founded by Jeanne and Mickey Klein, and each spring the town hosts Paint the Town, a plein air competition that brings around 30 artists in from around the country to paint the lake and hill country scenery live.

What there is to do

Lake Marble Falls is the obvious draw: boating, fishing, swimming, and every August it hosts one of the largest drag boat races in the country. Lakeside Park has the amphitheater, trails, and picnic areas, plus a public pool if you’d rather skip the boat. If you want more water, Lake LBJ is right next door with its own marina and water park.

For wine, Flat Creek Estate, Spicewood Vineyards, and Fiesta Winery are all a short drive out, and Krause Springs — one of the better-known swimming holes in the Hill Country — isn’t far either. Longhorn Cavern State Park and Balcones Canyonlands are both close if you want caves or hiking instead of water.

The calendar stays full, too. The Walkway of Lights turns Lakeside Park into a light display every winter — 350+ lighted sculptures over 44 nights, and it’s free. MayFest fills Johnson Park every May, and FiestaJAM on the lake has grown into a multi-day singer-songwriter festival in the fall. There’s also a free summer concert series most Friday nights if you just want music without planning around a festival.

Schools and everyday life

Marble Falls Independent School District serves most of the city, and it’s a real part of why families end up settling here rather than just visiting. It’s a town where people actually know their neighbors — regular local events, a farmer’s market, and a downtown small enough that you run into people you know.

If you’re ready to see what’s actually for sale here, I keep an updated list at Marble Falls homes for sale.
