The Difference Between Real Estate Agent And Real Estate Broker Infographic

If you’re buying or selling a home, you’ve probably heard the terms “real estate agent” and “real estate broker” used interchangeably. While both professionals help clients with real estate transactions, they are not the same. Understanding the difference can help you make a more informed decision when choosing who will represent you.

A real estate agent is licensed to help clients buy, sell, lease, and negotiate real estate transactions. Before becoming licensed, agents complete the required pre-licensing education and pass the state’s licensing exam. However, every agent must work under the supervision of a licensed real estate broker. Agents are often the professionals you’ll meet first, guiding you through showings, contracts, negotiations, and the day-to-day details of a transaction.

A real estate broker has completed additional education, gained more industry experience, and met higher licensing standards established by the state. Brokers pass a more advanced licensing exam and take on greater legal and professional responsibilities. They can own and operate a brokerage, supervise other agents, ensure compliance with state laws, and oversee complex transactions.

For consumers, the most important takeaway is that both agents and brokers are qualified to help you achieve your real estate goals. The difference is that brokers have invested additional time, education, and experience into advancing their careers. That added expertise can be especially valuable when navigating challenging negotiations, complicated contracts, unique properties, or changing market conditions.

At Uncommon Realty, we believe experience, education, and client service should go hand in hand. Whether you’re working with one of our agents or directly with a broker, our focus remains the same: providing knowledgeable guidance, honest advice, and exceptional representation from start to finish. The goal isn’t simply completing a transaction. It’s helping you make confident decisions while protecting your interests every step of the way.
