Gated options in Northwest Austin are more limited than people expect — most of the area is open neighborhoods, so when a buyer specifically wants a gate and controlled access, the list narrows fast. River Place is the one I point most buyers toward: it sits on the shores of Lake Austin with its own country club, golf course, and a nature preserve with hiking trails, and prices there typically run from the high $700Ks up past $2.5 million. Take a look at what’s currently listed below.

What “gated” actually gets you in Northwest Austin
Some Northwest Austin neighborhoods advertise themselves loosely as gated or private but really just have a decorative entrance monument with no controlled access — River Place is the exception, with an actual manned and card-access entry into much of the community. If a hard gate isn’t a dealbreaker and you mainly want privacy and large wooded lots, I’d also have you look at Long Canyon, off 2222 near the 360 intersection, where homes sit on 1-2 acre heavily wooded lots without an actual gate.

If a house rather than a gate is the priority, I keep a broader list on my Northwest Austin homes for sale page, and for buyers open to a townhome instead of a single-family lot, my Northwest Austin townhomes page is worth a look too.
