Georgetown at a glance
Georgetown is the Williamson County seat, about 30 miles north of Austin off I-35, and it’s been one of the fastest-growing cities in the country for several years running — its population has roughly doubled since 2010. Growth hasn’t erased the small-town core, though: the historic downtown square sits inside a National Register Historic District, built around the 1911 Williamson County Courthouse and ringed by boutiques and restaurants. The city has leaned into that history enough to brand itself the “Red Poppy Capital of Texas,” and every April the Red Poppy Festival takes over downtown. Outside the square, Georgetown has more than 30 parks and miles of trails, including the Blue Hole natural swimming area and San Gabriel River trails, plus Lake Georgetown for fishing, kayaking, and boating. Southwestern University, the oldest university in Texas (founded in 1840), sits right in downtown Georgetown and hosts community lectures and events open to residents, not just students. Georgetown has been a Texas Main Street City since 1982 and was the first city in the state to win the Great American Main Street Award, in 1997.
Finding the right community
For buyers looking at specific communities, Sun City is an age-55-plus community with its own golf courses and pools — one of the largest active-adult communities in the state — while Rancho Sienna is a family-oriented community near Highway 29 with a resort-style amenity center.
