Old Enfield is one of the oldest and most storied neighborhoods in Austin, and I love showing it to buyers who want real history along with their next home. It sits just west of downtown, between Lamar Boulevard and MoPac, with Enfield Road forming its southern edge and Windsor Road its northern one. Search the current Old Enfield listings below, and reach out if you’d like my thoughts on any of them.

Living in Old Enfield
The neighborhood was subdivided back in 1910 by the Enfield Realty and Home Building Company on land that had been part of Governor Elisha Pease’s plantation, and it’s kept that history alive in its architecture. Four Texas governors and two Austin mayors have called it home. Pease District Park, a 42-acre green space along Shoal Creek, sits right in the neighborhood and went through a $15 million renovation completed in 2021, including the large troll sculpture built by Danish artist Thomas Dambo. Across Enfield Road is Clarksville, with its own grocery store and restaurants within walking distance. Kids in Old Enfield attend Austin ISD, zoned to Casis Elementary, O. Henry Middle, and Austin High. Old Enfield is one of three neighborhoods, along with Bryker Woods and Pemberton Heights, that make up the Old West Austin Historic District, so it’s worth comparing all three if you’re weighing lot size against price.
Housing options in Old Enfield
Old Enfield is known for its Colonial-style homes, many built in the early to mid-1900s with mature trees and larger lots than you’ll find in most central Austin neighborhoods. Some have been meticulously restored, others updated with modern kitchens and additions while keeping the original architecture intact. If you want a historic home close to downtown instead of a newer build, this is one of the best places in the city to look.
