Lockhart is the Caldwell County seat, about 30 minutes south of Austin off Highway 183 and 130, and it’s known well beyond Texas as one of the state’s barbecue capitals — Kreuz Market, Black’s, and Smitty’s all trace back to this one small downtown square. It’s a slower pace than Austin proper, with a historic courthouse square and a real small-town feel, and buyers looking for a home with a pool here are usually trading commute time for more house and more land than they’d get closer in.
I’m Robbie English, REALTOR and Broker at Uncommon Realty, and I help buyers compare Lockhart against the other small cities along this same growth corridor south of Austin.
What to expect from a Lockhart pool home
Lockhart’s summers run just as hot as Austin’s, so a pool is genuinely useful here, not just a nice-to-have. Because lots tend to run bigger than what you’d find inside Austin’s city limits, you’ll see more room around the pool itself — space for a deck, a shed, or a garden — along with older in-ground pools on established properties and newer construction where a pool’s already built in. Lockhart ISD serves the city, and the drive into Austin or San Marcos for work is a real factor most buyers weigh here.
Comparing Lockhart to nearby towns
If you’re cross-shopping this stretch south of Austin, I also show buyers homes across the greater Lockhart 78640 area, San Marcos for a bigger city with more amenities, and Kyle if you want something a little closer to Austin. Let me know your must-haves and I’ll pull together what’s actually on the market with a pool right now, or schedule a buyer consultation if you’d rather talk it through first.
