Looking for Hutto TX homes and condos for rent? Hutto sits about 25 miles northeast of downtown Austin at the junction of US 79 and the SH 130 toll road, which makes the commute into Austin or out toward the Tesla and Samsung plants realistic without living in the middle of either. Rental options here run from newer condos to single-family homes with yards, across a range of budgets.
I’m Robbie English, a broker with Uncommon Realty here in Austin.
Hutto ISD serves most of the city, and it’s one of the fastest-growing districts in the state — enrollment has gone from just over 1,000 students on a single K-12 campus a couple decades ago to more than 11,000 students across 13 campuses today, with new schools still opening to keep up. If you’re renting with school-aged kids, confirm the campus assignment for the specific address rather than assuming based on the general area, since boundaries shift as new subdivisions come online.
Hutto’s other claim to fame is its hippo mascot — the city calls itself the Hippo Capital of Texas, and you’ll spot hippo statues around Old Town Hutto, the small historic downtown district with local restaurants and shops. Most of the newer rental inventory sits in subdivisions built out from that older core toward the US 79 and SH 130 corridors.
For renters weighing whether to buy down the road, a couple of resources worth a look: the Austin Home Buyer’s Guide and When Is The Right Time to Buy Your First Home?
Once you find a place, weigh commute time, HOA rules if any apply, and who covers which utilities before you sign. Those details vary more by landlord in Hutto than they would in a market with mostly corporate-owned complexes.
