I get a lot of calls from buyers who want a home with a pool in Wimberley, and I understand why. Hays County summers run hot, and a backyard pool turns July and August into something you look forward to instead of something you endure. Most of the pool homes I show here sit on hill country lots with limestone close to the surface, so the pools tend to be gunite, built to handle that rock and the shifting clay soil nearby.
I’m Robbie English, REALTOR and Broker at Uncommon Realty, and I work with buyers looking at pool homes throughout the Wimberley area.
Living in Wimberley
Wimberley sits in Hays County along the Blanco River and Cypress Creek, and most of the town and the neighboring community of Woodcreek fall inside Wimberley ISD, a district that also reaches into a piece of Comal County. This is a town that leans into its art-community identity — you’ll find the courthouse-square feel downtown, the EmilyAnn Theatre, and Market Days on the town square the first Saturday of the month from April through December. Blue Hole Regional Park, one of the best swimming holes in the Hill Country, sits right in town on Cypress Creek, and it’s a big reason people who love a home pool also love the idea of living here — you get both the public swimming hole and your own backyard water.
Getting around means Ranch Road 12 and River Road, and a drive into Spicewood and the western Lake Travis area or into San Marcos and Austin takes real time — this is not a walkable, sidewalk-and-coffee-shop town, it’s a rural Hill Country town, and most buyers here are choosing that on purpose.
What to Expect With a Pool Home Here
Because so much of Wimberley sits on shallow limestone, pool construction usually means gunite rather than a vinyl-liner or fiberglass shell, and excavation costs can run higher than in flatter parts of Central Texas. Many properties are on well and septic rather than city utilities, so if you’re adding a pool to acreage you don’t already own, I always tell buyers to check septic system capacity and setback requirements before falling in love with a backyard layout. Lot sizes here range from smaller in-town lots near the square to multi-acre Hill Country tracts with long views, and the homes themselves range from older cabins and cottages to newer custom builds — so price per square foot varies a lot depending on the lot, the view, and how much of the pool and outdoor living space is already finished.
