Bastrop sits about 30 miles southeast of Austin along the Colorado River, in the Lost Pines area, and summers here get just as hot as anywhere else in Central Texas — so a private pool tends to get real, regular use rather than sitting as a showpiece. It’s also a detail that can matter at resale, since pool listings in Bastrop tend to draw a specific pool of buyers who’ve already decided they want one.
I’m Robbie English, REALTOR and Broker at Uncommon Realty here in Austin, and I run pool-specific searches like this one for clients weighing Bastrop against other Austin-area options.
Where the pool homes are
Bastrop is reached off Highway 71 and Highway 130, and most of its pool inventory clusters in a handful of established neighborhoods: Tahitian Village, along the Colorado River with its own golf course and community pool; Colovista Country Club, a golf-course community up on the river bluffs; and Pine Forest, closer to Bastrop State Park and the namesake Lost Pines forest. Most of Bastrop, including these neighborhoods, is zoned to Bastrop ISD, one of the larger districts by square mileage in the state, serving Bastrop, Cedar Creek, Red Rock, Rockne, and Paige.
What to check before you buy
A lot of Bastrop’s pool homes are additions built after the original house rather than part of original construction, so I always recommend a pool-specific inspection alongside the general one — equipment age, decking condition, and whether the pool was ever permitted matter as much as how it looks in photos. If you’re comparing Bastrop against other pool searches closer to Austin, I’d also point you toward similar listings in Bee Cave or Wimberley if location matters more to you than price per square foot — Bastrop tends to offer more house and lot for the money since it’s further out.
