Marble Falls sits in Burnet County on the Colorado River, about fifty miles northwest of Austin — close enough for an easy day trip, far enough to feel like a different pace of life. The town takes its name from a limestone shelf across the river that early travelers mistook for marble; today that stretch of river is Lake Marble Falls, formed when the Max Starcke Dam went in back in 1951.
