Buying a Home Near Amazon in Austin | Local Guide

Amazon’s footprint in Austin has grown into two pretty different worlds, and if you’re relocating here for a job with them, the world you’re headed into makes a real difference in where you should be looking for a home. One side is the corporate and tech hub up at The Domain. The other is the fulfillment center out in Pflugerville. Let’s walk through both.

Buying a Home Near Amazon in Austin | Local Guide

The Domain: Amazon’s Corporate and Tech Hub

Amazon has been steadily building out its presence at The Domain in north Austin, where it leases roughly 330,000 square feet of office space. The company has announced more than 2,000 new corporate and tech jobs for the Austin hub on top of the 3,000-plus employees already working here across teams like Operations Technology, Amazon Retail, Amazon Business, and AWS. If you’re moving here for one of those roles, you’re joining a genuinely large and growing team, not a small satellite office.

For people headed to The Domain, I usually point clients toward north Austin neighborhoods close to the office itself, or a little further out to Cedar Park and Leander, both of which put you within a reasonable drive of The Domain while giving you noticeably more house for the money and easy access to MoPac. Round Rock works too, especially if your household has a second commute pulling you northeast.

AUS2: The Pflugerville Fulfillment Center

On the other side of Amazon’s Austin operation is AUS2, the 820,000-square-foot fulfillment center at 2000 E. Pecan St. in Pflugerville, just off Highway 130. It was the first fulfillment center in the Austin area built with Amazon’s robotics systems, and it’s been running since 2021. Fulfillment roles here have been averaging around $23 an hour as of this year, and Amazon continues to hire in waves as volume picks up.

If AUS2 is where you’re headed, Pflugerville itself is the obvious first stop since you could realistically live a few minutes from the building. Hutto and the east side of Round Rock are close behind, both a short drive down 130 and generally more affordable than homes closer to central Austin.

Figuring Out Which Side of Town Fits You

The honest answer is it depends entirely on which building you’re reporting to, and for a lot of dual-income households, it depends on both. I’ve worked with couples where one person is headed to The Domain and the other to AUS2, and in those cases Round Rock or Pflugerville often ends up being the fair middle ground, since Highway 130 connects both areas without forcing either commute to become miserable.

It’s also worth thinking past year one. Amazon’s presence in Austin has expanded steadily rather than all at once, so if there’s a chance you could shift between corporate and operations roles down the line, it’s worth picking a town that doesn’t lock you into one commute forever.

Why Work With Someone Who Knows Both Sides of This Move

I’m Robbie English, a REALTOR and Broker who works this entire corridor, from The Domain down through Round Rock and out to Pflugerville and Hutto. When I’m helping someone relocate for an Amazon job, the first question I ask isn’t “what’s your budget,” it’s “which building are you working out of.” That one detail changes almost everything else about where you should be looking.

If you’re relocating to Austin for Amazon, whether that’s a corporate role at The Domain or a position at AUS2, I can help you sort through the towns and actually find a home that matches your day-to-day, not just a zip code on a map.
